End-of-Day Parking

Before signing off, everyone writes one line per open task: the next action, when, and where — so their minds can switch off.

Why it matters

Unfinished tasks keep tugging at attention, eroding focus and evening recovery. Research shows a specific plan quietens that pull almost as well as finishing the task.

How to run it

  1. At the end of the day, list every open loop.
  2. For each, write the next physical action, when you’ll do it, and where.
  3. Close the laptop. The plan holds the thought so you don’t have to.
  4. Leaders model it — and stop sending evening messages.

Watch out for

  • Writing vague to-dos instead of concrete next actions

The Zeigarnik Effect

Unfinished tasks keep tugging at your attention — but you don’t have to finish them to make the tug stop. Writing a specific plan does almost as much.
