Values With a Calendar Invite

Turn one value into one observable behaviour, give it a recurring moment in the calendar, go first yourself — and ask someone to check on you in 30 days.

Why it matters

Culture isn’t what you announce; it’s what people experience, repeatedly. A value only becomes real when it has a time, a place and a leader who visibly does it. This is the simplest possible first step for any leader: not a strategy, one ritual.

How to run it

  1. Pick ONE behaviour. Not an adjective like "integrity", but an anchor like "we surface bad news within 24 hours".
  2. Give it a calendar invite. A question you personally ask in every meeting, or a ten-minute Friday review. Small enough to survive your worst week.
  3. Go first, visibly. Culture is not what leaders approve; it's what leaders repeatedly do.
  4. Ask one person to check on you in 30 days. Rituals don't die loudly. They die quietly, unwitnessed.

Rituals are values with a calendar invite.

Watch out for

  • Choosing an adjective ("integrity") instead of an observable anchor ("we surface bad news within 24 hours")
  • Making the ritual too big to survive your worst week
  • Delegating it instead of going first

When not to use it

Avoid launching several at once — one ritual, done consistently, beats five that quietly fade.
