Weather Check-in

Begin team meetings with a one-word "weather report" so everyone can signal how they're arriving — sunny, cloudy or stormy.

Why it matters

A low-effort way for hybrid and remote teams to notice each other as people, spot when someone is struggling, and build the trust that video calls erode.

How to run it

  1. Ask: "What's your weather today?" Each person answers with one word or emoji.
  2. No explanations required. Listening is the point.
  3. Follow up privately with anyone who signals stormy weather.

Watch out for

  • Pressuring people to explain a "stormy" answer in front of the group
  • Letting it become a habit with no follow-up

When not to use it

Large meetings over 12 people — use chat reactions instead.
