Weekly ritual

Weekly Wins

A 15-minute end-of-week round where everyone names one win and one person who helped make it happen.

Why it matters

Most teams only talk about what went wrong. Weekly Wins builds the habit of noticing progress and the people behind it, which strengthens momentum, recognition and cross-team generosity.

How to run it

  1. Open with the why (1 min). Remind the team the point is to notice progress and the people behind it.
  2. Go round the room (10 min). Each person shares one win from the week — big or small — and names one person who helped.
  3. Thank out loud. The person named gets a genuine thank-you. No speeches, just specifics.
  4. Capture it (2 min). Log the wins in a shared space. Over a quarter this becomes a powerful record of progress.
  5. Close with the week ahead (2 min). One sentence each on what they're looking forward to.

Facilitator tip: model it first. Share a small, specific win and thank someone by name — it sets the tone.

Watch out for

  • Letting it turn into a status update — keep it to wins and thank-yous
  • The same voices dominating; go round the room so everyone speaks
  • Skipping it in busy weeks, which is exactly when it matters most

When not to use it

Straight after a serious setback or layoffs. Acknowledge what happened first; celebrating too soon feels tone-deaf.

The Feedback Intervention Paradox

Feedback makes performance worse surprisingly often. Whether it was positive or negative barely matters — what matters is whether it points attention at the work or at the person.
